  • Database Access:

Visitors have access to all resources, including the GT Catalog, databases, and eJournals, except where licenses prohibit walk-in visitor access. Access is for academic, non-commercial research purposes only.

  • Access Control & Visitor Policy:

“Providing the Library with the right level of security allows us to anticipate and respond to any concerns. Access Control is one of the most important functions to ensure the safety and security of Faculty, Staff, Students, and Visitors in the Library.”

BuzzCard Holders: to gain access to the Library, a BuzzCard holder should use his/her BuzzCard. If he/she forgets the BuzzCard and would like entry to the Library, he/she will need to give GT account information to the Security Officer so that the officer is able to look this person up in the Access system.

Non-BuzzCard Holders: the following is a list of reasons for allowing access into the GT Library:

  1. To conduct research. Activities could include, but are not limited to, the following:
    • Patents & Trademark Research
    • Government Documents Related Research, e.g. obtain a tax form
    • Access Georgia Tech print and electronic resources, which include books, journals, science fiction collection, microfilm collection, archives collection, maps, CDs, and etc.
    • Getting help at the Library Services Desk
    • To meet/consult with a librarian/archivist, library staff (with or without an appointment)
  2. To study, e.g. a student from another college (domestic or international) or a high school student - Emory University and University System of Georgia (USG) Faculty, Staff, and Students, and Georgia Tech Alumni will be allowed access by showing current school id to the Security Officer and registering on the Visitor Log Book.
  3. To tour the library facilities: Most of the time, a tour would be led by library staff. Special occasions: Tours--should have a guide -- the guide should be identified and be able to give the officers the number and purpose of the tour members. If the tour guide cannot give the exact numbers, the purpose should be given, and the guide should be able to make accommodation for first/last members of the group to enter Library. Examples: Access Services Conference attendees want to tour the Library on their own time. Potential students and their families will be allowed in the Library to tour on their own.
  4. To attend or speak at events that are held in the Library buildings, regardless whether the events are sponsored by the Library or not - A visitor list may be provided by an event organizer allowing security to expedite access for non-GT persons by permitting them to enter without signing in (using the list).
  5. To teach or attend a class that is held in the Library
  6. To meet with library employees – Security will support in notifying the faculty/staff member of the visitor arrival.
  7. To use the visitor stations (see "Computing in the Library")

Visitors: All visitors are allowed in the buildings during the following times:

Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.

Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

All visitors are required to exit the buildings after these times, unless escorted by a GT BuzzCard holder.

If a question arises about legitimate usage of the Library, the Public Services staff will make the decision on approval/denying of entry.

NOTE: NO VISITORS will be allowed during final exam study periods (typically “Reading Period” and “Exam Week”). Exception to the NO VISITORS allowed during this two-three week period are: Government Documents & Patent Researchers, Emory University & University System of Georgia (USG) Faculty, Admissions led tours, Staff, & Students, visitors attending Library events in Library spaces, as well as any others having Leadership or Department Head approval.

All visitors must be signed into the visitor's logs to gain access to the Library unless prior approval and communication have been given. The occasion to skip the visitor log should be rare and met with prior approval.
